There is a variety of terminology used throughout the wiki in order to convery information as accurately as possible.
Canonicity[]
Any element in the Lore is considered Canon if it has been provided or confirmed Officially, and has been intentionaly released to the public. Elements that are 'Canon' can be considered surely to be true, and are the basis of any other theorycrafting.
- It is a Headcanon (which means that it only exists in fanfiction)
- It is retconned (see below)
- An official source confirms that it is not canon
- It is a case of "gameplay first"
Retconned[]
Retconned elements, are those elements which were considered Canon at one point, but removed from the canon by the developers later on. This is done often to adapt the past story to better fit new content as it is released. There are several Retcons in the VALORANT universe, such as the Old Terminology for the Earths (where the Attacker Earth was called 'Earth 67').
This term is inclusive for any information that has been intentionally removed from Canon, including things such as text that has been removed from news articles, deletion/editing of official social media posts, and the removal of such elements that were present in-game (not that the various balances and reworks added in the bimonthly patches are not Canon, they come under gameplay first)
Not knowing whether a particular Element is Retconned can lead to the unintentional spreading of misinformation and falsehoods, and so it is important to keep in mind what Information is no longer canon, and what is.
The Mirrorverse[]
The two Earths present in VALORANT are distinguished by two simple numbers: 1 and 2. Earth 1 are the defenders, whose perspective the story has been told from, while Earth 2 are the attackers. Similarly, elements from the defending Earth are identified by a suffix of -1, and those of the attacking Earth have a suffix of -2. Earth-2 is also referred to as 'Mirror Earth' at times
The Kingdoms have a separate method of distinguishing between the Earths: they refer to Earth 1 as α-Earth, and Earth 2 as Ω-Earth (with elements from the Earths having the prefix of α- and Ω- respectively). Throughout the wiki, both terminologies have been used.
Aside from this, special terminology exists to differentiate the Kingdoms specifically. The Kingdom of Earth 1 is called Kingdom Corporation (or K-Corp for short); the Kingdom of Earth 2 is called Kingdom Industries (or K-Ind for short)
