Reyna is the 11th Agent to join the VALORANT Protocol. The Mexican agent uses her cold blooded nature in combination with her Radiant powers to eliminate anyone who stands against her.

Forged in the heart of Mexico, Reyna dominates single combat, popping off with each kill she scores. Her capability is only limited by her raw skill, making her highly dependent on performance.

Lore[]

Reyna is a Mexican Radiant, and the eleventh Agent in the PROTOCOL. She uses her Radiant abilities in battle, which are linked to harvesting the souls of the people she kills.

Reyna is proud and aggressive in her nature and speech. She takes what she wants, when she wants it, no matter who stands in her way. She has an outward distaste for technology and tech-users, considering Radiants to be decidedly superior and even at times mocking the tech-users on her team. She is competitive, and often competes with the other Radiants to see who is the most powerful and skilled.

As stated above, Reyna's abilities work by harvesting the souls of her victims, and using them for her own purposes. Reyna can Devour enemy souls to regenerate her health and provide overshields, or use Dismiss to temporarily become invulnerable. She can kick herself into overdrive with Empress, during which her skills are heightened and her abilities gain powerful extra traits.

However, these great abilities do also come at a cost - she needs these souls to survive, and will most likely die if somehow her supply of them were to run dry. Several of her voicelines expand on this, claiming how she constantly feels 'hungry' for souls or how she "Is starving." (Reason is found on her "Lucia" section.)

Reyna provides great insight into the conflict between Radiants and Non-Radiants. Many of her voicelines imply that there is some form of discrimination between the two, with Radiants usually being treated poorly. In retaliation, Reyna has developed radical and borderline-extremist opinions, and a burning pride for her own Radiance.

Reyna's strong opinions on Radiance extend to a firm belief that the freedom and powers of Radiants should never be restricted, even if it were to result in benefit for other non-radiants. If, for any reason, restrictions of this sort are placed on a Radiant, they must accept them of their own volition[1] (Explained by her interactions with Neon and a few other Radiants).

Kingdom is known to have a history with exploitation of Radiants, experimenting and researching on them for 'scientific purposes' - it is unknown what exactly the consequences of this research is, but they are hinted to cause great harm to the subject. Due to this, Reyna has a visceral hatred for the megacorporation.

Reyna has fought against this, in her own great way. She has, through great personal effort, built a 'sanctuary' of sorts for Radiants. It is a safe haven for all the Radiants that she protects, whom she has saved from Kingdom's exploitive hands. She refers to this in one of her voicelines as well:

"My city needs me, I can't be away for long. Let's end this quickly."
— Reyna, Match Start

Indeed, calling it just a 'sanctuary' is doing it injustice, for the same voiceline implies that it is of the size and scale of a city. Not simply a ragtag underground shelter, nor a small out-of-the-way safe house, but a fully fledged city. It stands tall, as an asylum for those who were once exploited and harmed, and as a symbol of resistance against Kingdom's unethical practices.

It is important to realize that her pride for Radiance, and even her feeling of superiority due to her Radiance, does not extend to outright hatred for non-Radiants - despite what it may seem like at first glance, Reyna is in reality rather neutral towards most Tech-Users and their technology. The only Tech-Users that Reyna has a clear and outright dislike for are Killjoy and KAY/O (both with understandable reasons - see Relationships below), and perhaps Brimstone. For the rest - Viper, Cypher, Sova, Raze, Breach, and Chamber[2] - Reyna opinions are either neutral or genuinely positive.

Lucia[]

Reyna also has a younger sister, named Lucia, and she is the person that she cares of the most. However, due to events that we don't have a complete understanding of yet, she is currently in a critical state, bordering on the edge of death.

Several theories have emerged trying to describe why this is so, the most popular ones involving Lucia having a similar form of Radiance as Reyna (and thereby having a similar need for souls to stay alive, which she apparently can't gather for herself), or her state being brought about due to some accident with technology developed by Killjoy, Kingdom, or a mixture of them both. However, these do still remain theories - credible though some may be, we still don't know for sure whether they are true or not.

Regardless, efforts are being made to keep her alive. Currently, Viper is working on a medical solution. She has Reyna go off and gather souls during her missions, and then transfers their 'life energy' (as Viper herself calls it) over to Lucia. However, the transfer process is inefficient and wasteful - a lot of the energy is lost. And yet, Reyna shoulders the task of gathering enough to keep both herself and Lucia alive through these means.

Every single mission Reyna goes on, every quest, every kill, is linked to her dutiful battle to keep Lucia alive. When she says 'For you, Hermanita [Spanish, Little Sister]', she means it quite literally - the souls she gathers in battle go straight to her, and believed to be the reason why "She's starving."

Radiant War[]

Reyna is implied to be the instigator of the Radiant War. Fueled by her burning hatred for Non-Radiants, she began a world-wide war between Radiants and humans. She is also implied to have become the Leader of the Radiant side, with several lines from KAY/O naming her 'The Queen' and referring to her 'Reign'.

Several questions have been raised as to what drove her to this - while Reyna is definitely Radical, she's certainly not deranged to the point of wanting to start and all-out global war that would result in the utter and complete destruction of everything that exists. Some speculate that the linchpin that started off the whole process was a personal disaster, perhaps the eventual death of Lucia. While this has been hinted at somewhat, there is still no solid evidence either for or against this theory.

Dossier[]

Fade released a Dossier on Reyna in Patch 4.07:

Reyna Dossier

Reyna's Dossier, found in Split

This Dossier, like all others, starts with a short recount of Reyna's backstory. First a small nod to how it reflects with her character, stating that her past experiences have resulted in her radical opinions.

The next point, however, is far more noteworthy. The Blackmailer talks of a 'sanctuary' that Reyna has built, acting as a safe haven for the people that she protects. She describes it as a refuge, accepting of those that Reyna has saved from 'Kingdom's Microscope'. However, despite all the good she's done and all the people she's helped, she still remains unable to feasibly save Lucia, her little sister, and the most important thing to Reyna.

Appearance[]

Reyna's radiant heart can be seen glowing purple through the front of her outfit. Reyna also has a tattoo, which touches her heart and wraps around her arm down to her palm. The Empress ability symbol is in the middle of the tattoo on her left shoulder and a hollow version is on her palm. The tattoo glows purple when she is in her Empress form, and when using her abilities.

Diamond shaped studs are seen on Reyna's right glove, and are abundant on various parts of her armor including her outer left thigh. Reyna's hoop earrings feature the same stud design, accompanied by two additional gold earrings in her left ear. She shows a slight amount of skin on her inner left thigh.

When Empress is activated, her entire appearance changes. Her complete form is covered by a wispy purple layer. Her tattoos, her heart, and her eyes all glow a bright pink.

Relationships[]

Viper - Avatar
Viper

Viper has played a vital role in keeping Lucia alive, through technology that allows her to siphon 'life energy' from the souls that Reyna harvests and use it to aid Lucia and keep her alive. Viper also seems to have more of an affiliate doctor personality when chatting with Reyna, versus her often times cold personality.

Killjoy - Avatar
Killjoy

Of all the Agents, Killjoy is certainly the one for whom Reyna harbors the most dislike. There is, of course, her base distaste for tech-users and technology - but also a lot more. It is hinted that, at some point, one of Killjoy's inventions was responsible for causing harm to someone that Reyna held close (most theories usually label this 'someone' as Lucia). Killjoy, for her part, is mostly oblivious to the fact that her creations could be used for such a purpose.

Sage - Avatar
Sage

Reyna and Sage have a contrasting duality between them, in terms of their natures, abilities, powers, and outlooks. Both serve as Radiant Mentors for Neon as well.

Jett - Avatar
Jett

Reyna is fond of Jett. She considers her to be skilled, often giving advice and well-wishes to her.

Breach - Avatar
Breach

Breach is one of the few Tech-Users that Reyna seems to have a genuine liking for. They both share a strong ambition and a willingness to use violence to achieve their ends, and have a friendly and slightly flirty relationship.

KAY O - Avatar
KAY O

KAY/O has in incredible disdain for Reyna, as she was the main leader of the Radiants during the Radiant War within his world. Although he did manage to kill her in the end, KAY/O still has a seething hatred for what she did. Reyna on the other hand does not really understand why KAY/O is so hateful towards her. She says he is the solution to a problem that does not currently exist, and so his hatred is wasted on her.

Neon - Avatar
Neon

Alongside Sage, Reyna serves as one of Neon's two 'Radiant Mentors', working together to help her hone her capabilities and powers as a Radiant. Reyna has a very direct approach to this, suggesting that Neon should remove the surge protector on her back, considering it a 'Muzzle' which she should be free of.

Gekko - Avatar
Gekko

Reyna and Gekko seem to know each other from their hometowns, They seem to have a mother/son relationship. Despite being biologically unrelated, they are still close friends and allies and share a very close relationship.

Teasers[]

The first teaser for Reyna came in the 05: Are we ready for launch? Article[3] published on May 20th 2020. In an image showing the game's Agent roster at the time, a small part of Reyna's leg was visible in the bottom right corner.

The second and final teaser for Reyna was in a tweet[4] by @VALORANTBrasil. The teaser was found near the end of the embedded video, where some footsteps were followed by a reloading sound and a glitchy image of Reyna.

Notes[]

  • Reyna's working name in the files is "Vampire".
  • Reyna's name means "Queen" or "Empress" in Spanish.
  • In a deleted voiceline, Sage referred to Reyna as 'Delilah'. This has since been retconned, and is no longer true.
  • Due to their similar appearances, a joke-like theory has emerged, claiming that Fade is secretly Lucia (Reyna's little sister). Needless to say, this isn't a serious theory, and is not true.
  • As with every other Agent, Reyna has a Spotify playlist:
