The trailer "GREATER THAN ONE - Gekko Agent Trailer" was released on March 4, 2023 to serve as an introduction to the VALORANT Protocol's 22nd agent, Gekko. The trailer features the song "ᐳone" by ericdoa, and depicts Gekko skateboarding through the streets of LA before meeting up with his fellow Agent Reyna.

Synopsis[]

This trailer serves as an official introduction for Gekko, cruising down the streets of Los Angeles with his unique pets while presenting his day-to-day life and showcasing some of his in-game abilities.

Plot[]

The House[]

The trailer starts with Gekko video-logging as he dyes his hair green for a fresh, new look. In the background, Gekko's mother can be heard chiding his creatures for misbehaving. The video then cuts to show Gekko admiring his final look while his mother sigh "Tu pelo..." (Spanish for: Your hair...) in shock.

We then see the outside of Gekko's two-story home as he walks out through the front porch, texting Reyna to confirm the location of their rendezvous. Impatient to wait for a response, Gekko hops on his skateboard, his ride of choice to cruise down the streets of Los Angeles.

The Streets[]

GREATER THAN ONE - Streets

After a shot of Gekko cruising through familiar streets, he makes a stop at the market. Before Gekko enters, he summons his creature Wingman to protect his skateboard while he is inside. Gekko then hands the owl-like creature his empty Boba cup, which the latter skillfully dunks inside a trash can nearby. Not leaving his friend alone for long, Gekko makes his trip quick and the two resume their joyride.

After a few shots displaying the local shops and landmarks of LA, we see Gekko skillfully tailsliding through the Sixth Street Viaduct. Then we see him playing basketball alone. He's not entirely alone though— after Gekko misses a few of his shots, another one of his creatures named Dizzy is summoned and helps Gekko score a basket.

As Gekko is commuting by train, another one of his creatures named Thrash roams around and attacks an inanimate poster that depicts a Kingdom worker wearing a hazmat suit. After the creature transforms into its dormant form, Gekko scoops Thrash up and places her back in his sling bag, where she came from.

The Meetup[]

Arriving at the spot, Gekko briefly texts Reyna to ask about her whereabouts. After taking in a colorful mural that reads "Abre los ojos" (Spanish for "Open your eyes"), Gekko turns around swiftly and summons his creatures after being startled by Reyna lurking in the shadows.

Now visible, Reyna slowly approaches Gekko, muttering "El caos puede ser... hermoso." (Chaos can be... beautiful.) After assuring that his creatures mean no harm, Gekko whines to Reyna for scaring him: "Ay, ¿por qué eres así de tenebrosa?" (Oh, why are you so scary?). Approaching Gekko, Reyna then pets Dizzy as she mutters "Calm down mi hijos, soy yo." (Calm down my children, it's me.) Having finally met up, the two walk away from their rendezvous point while chatting in a friendly manner, with Reyna complimenting his new look "OoO! ¡Adoro tu cabello!" (Oh, I love your hair!) and Gekko rambling on about how his mother freaked out when she first saw it.

At the very end, Mosh pops up in front of the camera, being the only creature not revealed prior in the cinematic.

Lore[]

Gekko[]

Gekko's name is revealed to be 'Mateo' at the beginning of the cinematic, as her mother calls him to stop his creatures from annoying her. This is also the first time we see Wingman, Dizzy, Thrash and Mosh in action.

Kingdom[]

GREATER THAN ONE - Kingdom Poster

Kingdom Poster from Thrash's POV

Throughout the trailer, we can see Kingdom's influence on the city of Los Angeles; evident from the towering Kingdom buildings, the Kingdom posters on the subway and the bold propaganda seen on multiple instances: "Our eyes on the future". After Thrash attacks an inanimate Kingdom poster at first glance, it is safe to assume that the new Agent isn't particularly fond of the infamous company, much like his fellow agent Raze.

Reyna[]

GREATER THAN ONE - Reyna

Reyna, as seen in the cinematic

Reyna's appearance in this trailer has been hinted at from the social media teasers that released prior to Gekko's reveal. Before we even see Reyna towards the end of this trailer, we can also tell that she will make an appearance from the crown icon that belongs to the receiver of Gekko's texts.

Cypher[]

GREATER THAN ONE - Cypher

"Cypher Dead" Easter Egg

Blink and you'll miss it— but there's also a reference to Cypher in this trailer. In between the cool shots depicting the colorful streets of LA, we see an old car whose license plate reads "DEDCYPR". This is likely a reference to the ongoing joke within the VALORANT fanbase that Cypher seems to die in every cinematic where he appears.

Teasers[]

Prior to his release, Gekko was teased with multiple social media posts[1][2][3], from images from his camera roll[4] to his short phone call with Reyna.[5]
