This article is about the Lore of the Map, Fracture. For an archive of all the Emails, Announcements, Terminals, and other such elements that were found at Fracture, see Kingdom Archives.

Fracture is one of the ten maps in VALORANT. It is set in a Kingdom facility in α-Earth. The map is designed for unique gameplay, to facilitate the Attackers pinching sites from both the front and back ends.

A top secret research facility split apart by a failed radianite experiment. With defender options as divided as the map, the choice is yours: meet the attackers on their own turf or batten down the hatches to weather the assault.

Lore[]

Fracture is a map set in an abandoned Kingdom research facility (located near Diablo Canyon, New Mexico), named the 'Everett-Linde Facility'. It was the site of development of a Radian Collider, meant for advanced study of Radianite particles. Uniquely, the activities that took place here were done through cooperation of the Kingdoms of both α-Earth and Ω-Earth.

To avoid confusion between the two Kingdoms, they are referred to by unique names: the Kingdom of α-Earth refer to themselves as Kingdom Corp (or K-CORP), and the Kingdom of Ω-Earth refer to themselves as Kingdom Industries (or K-IND).

Fracture DBS

The fracture between the two biomes winding into the distance

Due to an event orchestrated by α-Chamber and Ω-Chamber (known as the 'Everett-Linde Disaster' or the 'Everett-Linde Incident'), the Radian Collider was blown up, destroying the facility and killing most (if not all) of the scientists working there. Due to the disaster, the facility remains in a dilapidated, abandoned state to this day.

The most prominent effect caused by the Disaster was the Dual-Biome Split[1], punctuated by a massive blue fracture between the two halves of the facility (it is from this Fracture that the map gets its name).

When working on Fracture's lore, the Devs intended to work by systems other than the usual mix of 'vague environmental storytelling coupled with the occasional voicelines and a Playercard'[2]. Because of this, a lot of the lore for this map has been conveyed through periodically updating interactables, cryptic cyphers and, and other such elements. An archive of all these has been made by Kingdom Archives.

The Story of Fracture[]

The updates to the story were added in a chronological manner in the bimonthly patches. These updates include new visuals in various terminal screens, new emails, and new messages spoken by an announcer. At the top right of the emails, the date when they were sent is also present, which provides us some idea of the timeframe in which the events occurred.

Since the Devs have historically refrained from using concrete dates anywhere[3][4], an unconventional dating system was developed. Days are numbered in reference to a certain 'epoch event' in the near future, which would take place at day 0.

Instead of showing a standard Gregorian date, the dates shown on the emails use a T-minus countdown format to the day of the epoch event, with the number counting down the number of days left until the event (for example, 'T-100' means that there are 100 days left until that event occurs; 'T-365' means that there are 365 days left until that event occurs). As the emails were released in chronological order starting over a year before the epoch event, time moves forward as the numbers either remain the same or go down with each new email added, with the final emails arriving on the day of the event, denoted as T-0.

It was later shown that this 'Epoch Event' would be the first time that the Large Radian Collider (the LRC) would first become fully functional and active. Sadly, since the Chambers decided that T-0 day would also be the day that the Radian Collider was to be destroyed, the dating system is also a counter of how many days most of the scientists have left to live.

T-480 Onwards: Everett-Linde working as 'normal'[]

The earliest email present in the patch when Fracture was released (Patch 3.05) was dated 'T-482'. This is the time from where the story, as it is narrated in game, begins. We meet the two main characters, who are the ones sending and receiving most of the Fracture Emails: Oran McEneff (of K-CORP) and Rúben Pontes (of K-IND). They are engineers working together on the development of the LRC.

We also get an insight into the working of the Facility. While it is certainly a cooperative effort between both the Kingdoms, there is still plenty of visible distrust between the two. Employees are discouraged from fraternizing with those of the other Earth, and simultaneous shifts with one's Mirrorverse counterpart are strictly prohibited.

This is furthered by a series of posters and printings found along the walls of the map, which encourage employees to keep any important information away from the other Kingdom. The level of teamwork seen between Oran and Rúben is unheard of anywhere else in the facility.

Fracture Paul

Paul's ID Card

Paul Delmann (the Employee of the Year at Icebox) is also set to move into Everett-Linde at around this time. One of the announcer messages says that Paul is awaiting a Shipment from Icebox. Later, in a Dev AmA session on Reddit, it was announced that this was in wake of Paul's office transfer from Icebox to Everett-Linde[5]. Paul's security card can also be found as an interactable, buried in the sand near Attacker Bridge.

The work that is being done at Everett-Linde was very important, yet is also a great secret. Almost everyone (in both the worlds) is completely unaware of even the existence of the Lab. Sadly, even we are given precious little information about what exactly the work done here is.

While several glimpses are given in the emails as to the relevance of said work (such as Rúben telling Oran that what they do is to help "build worlds worth living in", and Aurora (Rúben's Niece) describing it as "top secret saving-the-world blah blah blah whatever"), rarely is any specific information given.

From the nature of the Radian Collider, we can assume that it has to do with advanced physics and the study of Radianite. Killjoy's voicemail to Brimstone states that some of the research being done was related to "radianite exposure" and "biome acceleration". Judging from the wording used in Aurora's email, it is likely that whatever is being done here is of a paramount importance to the survival of one or both the the Earths. One possible goal could be to develop an alternate energy source for Ω-Earth, in wake of their Radianite shortage (this is, however, speculation, it is not canon)

As time moves on, events at Everett-Linde proceed at a normal pace. At around T-450, Oran and Rúben take a walk through the support structure of the still-in-development LRC. Lucky they did, because while inspecting the area they found something (which remains unspecified) that "could have been a major setback". At around T-380, Rúben does also get an email from his young niece, Aurora Pontes, in which she talks about her soccer team.

T-320 Onwards: the First Disruptions[]

The first disturbances in the story of Fracture take place at around T-320 (as per the emails added in Patch 3.07), with the introduction of a new character, 'Vincent Fabron' (who would later be revealed to be Chamber).

The announcer was updated during this patch, with a new line being added, warning all the personnel that Fabron would no longer be permitted in the Facility. Along with this, the terminal screens updated during this patch now read "Qui est Monsieur Fabron?" (French, translating to 'Who is Mister Fabron?')

Fracture Magnifique

Chamber's teaser, as seen in the State of the Agents article

Around this time, Rúben and Oran also have a leisurely chat on both their worlds. Rúben describes how some cities on Ω-Earth are covered by a geodome, which greatly amazes Oran. The two discuss further in a pair of emails. In one of these, a third reference to the mysterious Mr. Fabron is dropped. Oran refers to him as the "tie-guy", and describes his elegant (and incredibly expensive) business card.

Shortly before Patch 3.07, the September State of the Agents article was released. As usual, it contained a teaser for upcoming Agent (Chamber): an image of a cup of coffee on a table, next to which was a business card. The card was black and gold, and had Chamber's insignia on it. The connection between the card as a teaser, along with Fabron being said to have a similar card in the emails, caused many to rightly speculate that Chamber and Fabron were one and the same.

We move forward in time, to T-180 (introduced in Patch 3.08). The Chief engineer at the Facility (who is also the supervisor of Oran and Rúben), Thomas Poe, has mysteriously disappeared. The updated terminal of this patch states "We suspect foul play", along with a map marking the location where Poe was last seen.

Navigating in-game to that location, we find a card lying on the ground, hidden in the bushes. Interacting with it reveals that it belong to Chamber, being the same business card as was seen in his teaser in the SoA article.

Making the obvious connections, we can assume this means that the Chambers attacked and kidnapped Thomas Poe, for reasons that aren't fully clear. It is likely to interrogate him for some valuable information on the Facility and the work they are doing there. Note that, at this point, Fabron is still barred from entering Everett-Linde. Kidnapping Thomas Poe could be with the express purpose of reinstating his access.

Alarmed by the loss of their Chief Engineer, the Kingdoms began a frenzied search. Anyone in the Facility who worked under Thomas Poe, or was otherwise familiar to him, was asked to report to K-SEC. This included Oran and Rúben, who were called into a mandatory security screening. The pair exchange a set of emails, with Oran describing his concern for the Chief Engineer, while also his relief that he wasn't called to security because of them doing something wrong themselves.

Approaching T-0[]

We now jump forward in time, right up till T-26 (Patch 3.09, the same patch in which Chamber was added). Events begin to rapidly accelerate at Everett-Linde, with T-0 day ever closer. The whole facility holds its breath in anticipation for the day, when the work that they have done over the past year and a half will come to fruition. The LRC tests begin, coupled with a rise in the security Protocols (described in a few announcements added in this patch) as well. The stakes are high, and everything must go perfectly.

Rúben Pontes asks for a trip home after T-0 day, and gets his biometrics approved. On a darker note, however, the terminal has also been updated: now, it states that Vincent Fabron has managed to get his security clearance reinstated, along with the words "There's always a Plan". With Clearance Level 7, Fabron now has full access to the entire facility, and is able to do in it what he pleases. At the right end of the terminal, a glitchy image of Chamber's face is present.

Fracture Cipher

'Ugzxeifxnsdhmurfr Gxaiitsomzmghfen'

In attacker spawn is a new interactable: a crumpled, faded, slightly torn piece of paper that bears Chamber's insignia, along with a jumble of letters. It reads, "Ugzxeifxnsdhmurfr Gxaiitsomzmghfen".

Further inspection revealed that it was encrypted text, that needed to be put through a cipher decoder to be read. After a lot of headscratching (and multiple blatant hints from the Creative Director, David Nottingham[6][7]), the code was finally decrypted[8] to read "Schematicsobtained, Tomorrowtheusual" (Schematics Obtained, Tomorrow the Usual).

Reading into this, we can tell that these encrypted messages were the method used by the Chambers to communicate with each-other: after all, no one (other than the Lore Community) will give even a second glace to a set of scribbles on an old scrap of paper lying in the dust, ensuring the secrecy of their conversation.

The information in this particular message is simple: one of the Chambers is telling the other that he has obtained some schematics (which would later be revealed to be for a interdimensional teleportal, see Chamber's Agent Page for more information), and that they should continue their correspondence as usual the next day.

The Everett-Linde disaster[]

Patch 3.10 rolls out, and the day is T-1. With one day left until the final culmination of their work, the entire facility in a festive mood. It seems that the higher-ups at Kingdom were also very pleased, as even the stringent α/Ω segregation laws were temporarily relaxed to allow a cross-team party later on. Oran and Rúben are particularly delighted with what they have achieved, commenting on the sheer greatness of it in a set of emails.

Sadly, their happiness is short-lived. T-0 days rolls around, and the collider does activate - but only for a short while. All this time, the Chambers were lurking ominously in the background, and now they are ready to strike.

The manner in which they destroyed the LRC is well documented in the Uncover Fracture mini-cinematic, that was released as a trailer for the map. The Chambers set themselves up at opposite sides of the map, each with clear vision of the LRC. They both activated their Tour de Force, and fired right into the heart of the collider at the same time.

As the bullets struck, the collider's body instantly shattered, and a massive explosion shook the entire facility. Nearly all the machines and technology throughout the facility instantly broke down and began to spark alarmingly. The portals made by K-IND to Ω-Earth malfunctioned and went dark, stranding all the Omega employees. For more information about the event, as well as possible explanations to why Chamber caused it, see the article about the trailer.

The updated terminal, during this patch, reads "Between Scylla and Charybdis". This is an idiom based on Greek Mythology (Scylla and Charybdis are two monsters, who the hero Odysseus encountered on his travels). Its meaning is along the lines of 'stuck between a rock and a hard place', or 'to choose between two evils'. For more information about the parallels this has with Greek myths (of which there are many), see below.

Below this message is a map, with a highlighted point in Attacker Bridge. Further inspection around the specified spot reveals a gun case, hidden in an out-of-bounds area. This is the gun case used by one of the Chambers, when they shot down the collider (see Other Environmental Storytelling below). Here, the reference to Scylla and Charybdis is used as a metaphor for the story.

The manner in which the two Kingdoms respond to this calamitous event is very different. K-CORP's reaction to the disaster is relatively standard: it broadcasts an evacuation order to all its personnel, notifying them through emails and requesting them to evacuate to the designated rally point.

K-IND, however, takes a very different route. Instead of warning their personnel, they send a systemwide auto-generated message stating that all the K-IND files and archives are set to be purged, requesting employees to make backups of anything they deem important.

The disparity between the Protocols adopted by the two Kingdoms clearly defines the differences between them. While certainly more technologically advanced, K-IND appears to be far more sinister and secretive then its α-Earth counterpart, prioritizing their secrecy over their personnel.

A possible reason for this is that the facility itself is located in α-Earth, and so α-Earth's Kingdom cares a lot more about the potential repercussions of a sitewide disaster. All K-IND genuinely stands to lose through the event (other than the 'world-saving' work that was taking place here) are the innocent lives of its employees, a cost which it is apparently willing to bear.

Regardless of what attempts either of the Kingdoms made in the wake of the disaster, it was all ultimately fruitless. It is implied that all the personnel who were working at Everett-Linde on T-0 day died there. Killjoy herself expresses her intense sorrow for all the fallen scientists who lost their lives on that day in a voicemail sent to Brimstone (audible in Brimstone's Office during the same patch).

Fracture Trailer 0-23

Visible disparity between the Biomes, even as the LRC was shot

The most visible aftermath of the Everett-Linde Incident was the Dual-Biome Split between the two halves of the facility. The K-CORP side is lush and overgrown, filled with trees, grass and vines, while the K-IND side has become a dry, arid desert. Splitting apart the two sides is a massive, glowing blue Fracture. It spreads itself far beyond the limits of the Facility, going on for miles before ultimately winding out of sight

When considering the split, it is important to discuss how it was developed. While it would be simplest to chalk it all up to the explosion of the Radian Collider, that wouldn't entirely be correct. In the Uncover Fracture mini-cinematic (which recorded the Everett-Linde disaster as it occurred), we see adult trees and other plants present on the Alpha side of the facility.

While the effects of the LRC explosion would certainly be very powerful, it is unlikely that they would cause fully grown trees to instantly sprout out of the ground at the facility, at seemingly random.

It is a lot more likely that the explosion merely augmented elements in the environment that were already present, such as by causing hyper-sped growth on all pre-existing plant matter on the K-CORP side of the facility. This could tie in to Killjoy's voicemail stating that the facility was conducting research on 'biome acceleration': perhaps, the scientists at the facility were investigating the effects of Radianite altered growth (or Radianite induced death, in K-IND's case), and the LRC explosion caused its effect to be amplified to extreme proportions (this is speculation, it is not canon).

In conclusion, the aftermath of the Everett-Linde disaster was the utter destruction of the Everett-Linde facility, causing several innocent scientists to die. The ruined LRC caused a split between the ecology in the two sides of the facility, that spread itself far into the local environment. Whatever little trust was present between the two Kingdoms (and, by extensions, the two Earths) was likely lost as well.

Episode 4 Act 1 onwards, the Fracture emails can no longer be accessed. The terminal now shows a depiction of the LRC destroyed, reading "...and all lay silent". This is to symbolize that the story of Everett-Linde has come to an end, with the once proud facility lying in shattered ruins. Whatever happens next (if anything happens at all) is a mystery of the future.

Homer's Odyssey References[]

As stated above, the terminal screen in Patch 3.10 showed an authorization code and security camera footage of an intruder (who we now know was Chamber). The 'PENDING AUTH' code was deciphered to say 'Between Scylla and Charybdis'. This idiom has two different meanings, 'to choose the lesser of two evils' or 'to go from a bad situation to one that is worse'.

The most common interpretation of 'between Scylla and Charybdis' is 'to choose between the lesser of two evils', which is derived from Odysseus' dilemma in book twelve of Homer's Odyssey[9]. As he passed through the Strait of Messina, Odysseus and his crew were forced to chose between passing by Scylla, the six-headed sea monster, or Charybdis, a whirlpool off the cost of Sicily. Odysseus was advised to pass by Scylla and only lose a handful of sailors rather than wreck his ship in Charybdis.

The logical analysis of this idiom backs a popular theory, that Chamber caused the Everett-Linde incident to avoid something much worse that would take place if the LRC was allowed to start up. Going with this, the idiom would refer to Chamber's predicament of having to destroying the Everett-Linde facility and kill numerous scientists, or face the consequences of letting the LRC launch successfully.

Chamber chose the latter in order to keep casualties to a minimum, however, he was still forced to commit evil and kill most of the Fracture scientists. This metaphor for Chamber is also backed by the presence of the Odyssey Lounge found near the teleporters next to A Main. The Odyssey lounge was also sighted at Pearl (at B Club), pushing this connection further

Other Environmental Storytelling[]

Other than those that contribute solely to the Main story, there are many other environmental elements present throughout the map.

The Gun Cases[]

If one spends some time exploring near the Attacker Spawn and the Attacker Bridge (two areas of the map which have a clear view of the LRC), one can find a pair of Gun cases. Along with each case is a tripod with a camera, a small set of bullets, and a Radio. The case located near Attacker Spawn is open.

These gun cases lie at the locations the Chambers took when they shot down the LRC.

Posters and Printings[]

Throughout the map, several posters can be found on the walls, many of which contain messages that advise secrecy and caution to the employees. Whilst they may have been collaborating with each other, both Kingdoms did not appear to trust each other much. Cross-organization communication was only allowed with approved visitors, and both of the Kingdoms had posters on display in their sectors that treated their counterpart with some level of distrust.

The differences between the content and wording of the posters on the Alpha and Omega sides of the map greatly highlight the disparity between the Kingdoms. While those put up by K-CORP are largely motivational in message (with messages such as "Dare to Dream", "the Age of Radianite", and "Preserve Our Future" for Alpha), K-IND puts a much greater emphasis on secrecy and efficiency of work (with messages such as "Stakes are high", "Less talking, more doing", and "Keep it secret, keep it safe"). K-IND discourages conversation, and instead promote their signature stringent guidelines and regulations on Employee behavior. To go with this serious approach is imagery of an Earth split in halves, something that is often used on Omega when referring to the split in the mirrorverse.

Orange Radianite[]

Prominently, the color of the Radianite in the Omega sector of the map is orange, although it is not clear why this is so. Some possible reasons are:

  • The difference in color is an intentional, artificial change made prior to the Everett-Linde incident. This would either be made so that the Kingdoms could more easily recognize which Radianite belonged to which Earth, or because the Radianite would gain new properties after it undergoes the change in color.
  • The Radianite from Ω-Earth is inherently different from that on α-Earth. In contrast to the green hue of the Radianite Crates that we are accustomed to, the Radianite present in Ω-Earth is Orange by nature.

The fact that the color of Radianite seen in Pearl, which is known to be set in Ω-Earth, is Orange suggests the latter to be true.

Long-time VALORANT players will recall that the color of Radianite in the game's Beta period was also Orange, identical to what is currently seen at Fracture and Pearl. It is unknown whether the similarity of color is a simple co-incidence, or whether there is a genuine lore connection between the two.

Going with the second potential reason listed above, some players speculate that the Beta took place in Ω-Earth. While this is certainly an interesting theory, we must remember that almost everything from the Beta has since been retconned. This means that it is no longer canon, and will ultimately have no effect on the lore as we move forward.

Regardless of the reason behind the difference in color, the practical question is whether the two colors of Radianite have similar properties or not. It is possible that the Omega Radianite functions in an entirely different way. Perhaps Orange Radianite has a greater affinity for teleportation technology, which is why Ω-Earth was capable of advancing much further in this region. This could also be one of the reasons why Killjoy faced so much trouble developing a α-Ω Bridge (this is, however, speculation. It is not canon)

Whatever the case, the attackers don't really differentiate between Orange and Green when they steal Radianite. They are equally satisfied to detonate the Spike in the Omega and Alpha sectors. While it is possible that this is just an instance of Gameplay First, it could also imply that there are practical differences in the two forms of Radianite other than the color.

The Dual-Biome Split[]

Due to the experiments and elements being used at the lab, an event occurred that affected the surrounding environment, causing it to be split in two halves[10]. The Alpha Sector (Kingdom Corporation's side) became rich in plant life and green surroundings, whilst Omega Sector (Kingdom Industries' side) became dry and barren with a dusty orange appearance. Conveniently, these colors also ended up matching with the speculated inherent colors of each Earth's native radianite (green for Alpha, orange for Omega).

The transformation was enormous, affecting the surrounding land far beyond the lab. Whether it has reached as far as towns and cities is not known, but it seems very unlikely as the facility's existence remained highly-classified.

Due to the ambiguity behind the event responsible for the split whenever it is referred to, there are multiple theories as to when this occurred. It is thought the event responsible for the split was either:

  • The destruction of the LRC caused by the two Chambers.
  • A different experiment that happened further in the past.

The first theory is based on the existence of the blue rift that bisects the facility. The boundary between the two biomes perfectly fits to this rift, so it is speculated that the event that caused the rift to be made also resulted in the dual-biome split. We know for certain from Fracture's reveal trailer that the rift was caused by the destruction of the LRC, therefore it would be this event that also caused the split. It also appears to make sense that a large event like that would be needed for such a massive environmental change to occur, especially as this spreads far beyond the lab.

The second theory is based on the interpretation of a response in the Fracture Reddit AMA from the devs[11]. Given the singular use of "Agent" without using their call sign instead, it is speculated that this comment was referring to Chamber, who was yet to be officially revealed at the time of the AMA and therefore wouldn't have been able to be specifically named yet.

If this is referring to Chamber's initial attention to the site, then this would put the date of the experiment and the resulting split at any point before his first known appearance at the lab, which would be before T-319. The blue rift could then also be explained as conforming to a pre-existing biome boundary rather than being the cause of it, and the explosion just helped to amplify the traits of each biome more.

However, it is also speculated that the AMA comment was meant to refer instead to the group of VALORANT Agents who arrived after the incident to recover data from the site. The emphasis on "the event" may also suggest that the event in question should be one that we are already familiar with (the LRC's destruction had already been revealed in Fracture's reveal trailer), not a new, unknown event.

Other Interactable[]

Paul's Security Card[]

Near Attacker Bridge, a card lies in the dust. On interacting with it, it is shown to be Paul's Security ID Card. It has a K-CORP logo, along with his designated Level-5 Security Clearance. It contains a QR code that leads to VALORANT's official website. Interestingly, Paul's image on the card does not show his face.

Fracture BusinessCard2

Chamber's Business Card

Chamber's Business Card[]

In patch 3.08, if one was to explore around Sector 2-B (near B Site, the location was specified in The Terminal present during the same patch), one can find an interactable Business Card.

Interacting with it reveals that it is one of Chamber's cards - and since the terminal screen that lead us to it reads 'WE SUSPECT FOUL PLAY' when deciphered, it seems to be a strong hint that Chamber was somehow involved in Thomas Poe's mysterious disappearance.

Fracture Cipher

Ugzxeifxnsdhmurfr Gxaiitsomzmghfen, decoding to Schematicobtained, Tomorrowtheusual

Chamber's Cipher[]

Patch 3.09: If one explores near Attacker Spawn, one can find a third interactable. This is a crumpled piece of paper that reads 'Ugzxeifxnsdhmurfr Gxaiitsomzmghfen'.

This is text encryped through a Vigenere Cipher. When decoded (using the key 'Cestsimplecommebonjour' [French, translating to It's as simple as hello, an idiom with a meaning similar to 'It's a Piece of Cake'], which was hinted at by Creative Director David Nottingham), we get 'Schematicobtained, Tomorrowtheusual'

This is a message from one of the Chambers to the other, saying that he had managed to get his hands on the Teleportal Schematics (these being the same ones that he later handed over to the Protocol after getting recruited), and that they should meet again as usual on the next day.

Map Layout & Design[]

The map is split into two halves that each house one of the organizations; Kingdom Corporation is located in Alpha Sector and Kingdom Industries is located in Omega Sector. Each sector has its own tower, the purpose of which remains unknown. At the center below the main buildings are the remains of the Large Radian Collider. Alpha Sector contains Robotics, Botany, an observation tower, and other scientific research facilities. Alpha Kingdom also built a couple of recreational rooms for their employees. Omega Sector contains a radar facility, a teleporter terminal, and a security room.

Both of Fracture's bombsites are each located within one of the sectors, both of which can be attacked from front and back of the sites. Attacker side spawn provides routes to Hall of A site and Tree of B site. It also provides ziplines to the opposite end of the map which leads to Drop of A site and Arcade of B site.

The Defender spawn connects both the sites for fast rotations. The A site is made of 2 levels for planting the spike. A proximity sensing automated door connects the Hall with A Ropes which leads to the site. B site features a underground tunnel which connects the front of B site to Arcade. The map features numerous vertical positions: B tower, A drop and A rope being some of the major ones.

Agent Relationships[]

Killjoy - Avatar
Killjoy

Killjoy was aware of the research going on at Everett-Linde prior to its destruction, and held the facility (including the scientists working there) in very high regard. She was absolutely crushed on hearing about the Everett-Linde disaster, which she still rues. Killjoy expresses her sad opinions on the disaster in a Voicemail to Brimstone (audible in Brimstone's Office in Patch 3.12)

Chamber - Avatar
Chamber

Chamber, through a plot orchestrated over a year, was responsible for the destruction of the Facility. When in game, he expresses concern of being recognized. It is worth noting that, since the VP does not know of his involvement with Fracture at this point, being recognized will likely have very serious consequences, both for him and his relationship with the Protocol.

It is worth noting that none of the Agents, even those who are former Kingdom or K-SEC employees, have ever worked at Everett-Linde. Other than Chamber, none of the Agents had any relationship with Everett-Linde before the Disaster.

Map Teasers[]

Early Teasers[]

The first tease for Fracture took place on the 17th of December of 2020 (almost 8 months before the map was released), shortly after Yoru's teasers. It took place in Creative Director, David Nottingham's End of Year story, posted on @playvalorantofficial.

The video was filled with frequent glitches. Through these, a hazy image was momentarily visible just before the end of the video, which was of Killjoy standing before a destroyed Radar dish. This would later be revealed to be a part of Fracture.

Later on, in a Dev QnA Session on the VALORANT Lore // Art Server, David Nottingham dropped a hint that we would "learn more about Kingdom in Episode 3"[12]. This was another teaser for Fracture.

Episode 3 Teasers[]

Fracture was hinted at in the Episode 3 Cover Art. If one looks carefully, one can see Fracture' broken satellite dish in the bottom-left corner. One can also see a pillar of light erupting from a shattered circular object, which is in refence to the destruction of the LRC

The next teaser for the map was the Testing Grounds Playercard, obtainable at Tier 42 of the Episode 3: Act 1 Battlepass (see below).

Testing Grounds
The Testing Grounds card shows a road leading up to a facility. which's gates are marked with the 'Radianite Hazard' Symbol. In the distance, we see some structures built atop a flat-topped mountain. This card is a teaser for Fracture.

Fracture was also teased in the YR1 Anthem. In the intro scene, the words 'WATCH' are present looming over the map. This was the first clear look we got at Fracture, showing a desolate Kingdom facility split between two biomes. Note that all the K-IND logos were edited to look like normal K-CORP logos, so as to not spoil too much of the map.

Social Media Campaign[]

Fracture SMCampaign1

"Decode This" - @PlayVALORANT

The Social Media Campaign for Fracture was kicked off by a post[13] from @PlayVALORANT, simply reading "Decode This." It contained an image, which was a closer look at the teaser shared in the YR1 Anthem, along with text in various languages. Translations of them all are:

  • "Divided Worlds" (German)
  • "Kingdom" (Japanese)
  • "Collapse/Disintegrate" (Chinese)
  • "Future Revealed" (Spanish)

The next four posts are a series or short clips, taken from the Uncover Fracture trailer. All four were tweeted in sequence by @PlayVALORANT, one week after the previous teasers.

  1. The First post[14] showed a Radianite bullet emerging from a golden casing. This clip is from the first few seconds of the trailer, when the Chambers shot down the collider (0:08 - 0:11).
  2. The Second post[15] was our first real look at Fracture as a map. It showed the ruined LRC sparking dangerously, and small particles seemed to levitate around it (0:38 - 0:39).
  3. The Third post[16] gave a clearer depiction of the Dual-Biome Split between the two halves of Fracture. It showed the Facility right after the LRC was destroyed (0:24 - 0:25).
  4. The Fourth post[17] was slightly longer than the others, and was similar in theme to the third. It showed various machines and appliances at Fracture starting to Spark and shut down (0:23 - 0:26).

The final post of the campaign[18] was made by @valorantde, made the day after all the others. It was a 13-second long clip, which showed the same building alternating between two environments: one lush and forested, the other dry and arid. It was to emphasize the duality of Fracture's biomes.

Notes[]

  • A voicemail from Killjoy revealed other specific studies being carried out at the facility included radianite exposure and biome acceleration.
  • The duality of the biomes caused some to believe that the Omega sector of Fracture was a part of Ω-Earth, that had been somehow forced into α-Earth during the Everett-Linde Disaster. However, it was been confirmed that both sides of the facility are of α-Earth[19].
  • The Everett-Linde Incident takes place after the events of the DUALITY cinematic[20].
  • Contrary some theories, Omen is not related to Fracture. He has no connection with the Facility, nor with the Incident that occurred there[21].
  • The work done at Everett-Linde was VERY secret - even high level Kingdom personnel were completely unaware of the lab's existence[22].
  • Since it is implied that everyone who worked at Everett-Linde died, α-Paul Delmann (the fan favorite Icebox Employee of the year) is also implied to be dead. However, in the teasers for the release of Gekko, a certain individual with the initials PD has appeared in emails found on Icebox, and the content indicates that they are alive. While it is not explicitly stated that PD is Paul Delmann, there is a high chance that α-Paul has survived the events of Fracture. Ω-Paul is also alive and is the site manager of the Reality Restoration Project going on in Pearl.
  • It is unconfirmed why the Facility is named Everett-Linde. One possible reason is that it was named after the renowned physicists, Hugh Everett and Andrei Linde[23].
  • The Fracture Cipher was added in Patch 3.09, but it was so hard that it didn't get solved until after Patch 3.12, and even then it was only done because Creative Director David Nottingham directly told us the Cipher's key.
  • The cross-Earth cooperation, as seen in Everett-Linde, is only the second time ever that we have seen entities from opposing Earths working together. The first instance was of the two Chambers, in Chamber's Agent Trailer, L'Accord [French, The Deal/The Agreement]
  • Fracture's unique storytelling system of periodically-updating elements was first teased by David Nottingham in a Reddit QnA session, hosted on the 3rd of June, 2021 [24]
