Lore[]

Deadlock is the 23rd agent to join the VALORANT Protocol.

Deadlock stands mostly in shadow with only her hands and hip visible. Before her is a table laid out with various electronic components, a screwdriver, and a tablet.

Deadlock's teaser from the What's Next in 2023 YouTube video.

Prior to her addition to the VALORANT Protocol roster, she was part of an organization known as Ståljeger, belonging to their Ursa team, which Kingdom Corporation contracted to escort the Kingdom scientist Anton Dorsey to “The Vault” in Svalbard, Norway in order to retrieve a radivore bear and transport it to the US as part of Project Landfall. During the confrontation with the bear as seen in the UNMADE cinematic, her 2 teammates and Dorsey were killed, she lost her left arm (exactly how much of her arm was lost is unknown, although it is speculated that her elbow was lost along with her forearm while her biceps are mostly intact), and a prosthetic replacement was fabricated by Killjoy after she was saved. Her experience with the radivore bear has soured her view of these creatures, leading to tension between her and Gekko--who has 4 Radivores.

Similar to other human sentinels, Deadlock is skilled at working with and creating her own technology. In a voicemail to Brimstone from Patch 7.03[1], she informs him that she's created four crates specifically for detaining Gekko's radivore crew. To further bolster this, her teaser from the What's Next in 2023 // Dev Diaries YouTube Video implies that she created and maintains the equipment she uses in-game.[2]

Ståljeger[]

Ståljeger (Steel Hunters) are a private military group consisting of weapons experts, extraction specialists and in general elite hunters. They were contacted by Kingdom to extract a dangerous Radiavore. Team Briar of Ståljeger were eradicated by this Radiavore and to check on them Team Ursa (including a Kingdom scientist) were sent. The only survivor of this mission was Deadlock.

Personality[]

As a survivor from an unfortunate and traumatic incident, Deadlock suffers from PTSD and survivor’s guilt over the loss of her sisters-in-arms, the Ståljegers. This seems to have kept her from being open with the Protocol in the beginning, while also being openly hostile to Gekko and his crew of radivores. Over time, however, Deadlock has been able to open up to the team and even with the radivores, though she still seems to maintain some distance with them.

During her missions, Deadlock also looks out for her teammates and tells them to do so as well. Besides this, she maintains full composure in combat. She also enjoys commenting on certain members of the Protocol for their combat style, for example, she implores Breach to keep it simple, so her report writing also stays simple.

Appearance[]

Deadlock is a Scandinavian woman with blonde hair. Her most prominent facial feature is the diamond-shaped collection of 4 moles below her left eye. Her left prosthetic arm is white, but the connection point between her natural arm and her prosthetic one is hidden away beneath her white jacket. As a result, we don't know how much of Deadlock's arm was lost to the incident with the radivore bear. Apart from the white jacket, which is left unzipped, she wears a cyan and green sweater beneath said jacket, black pants with yellow accents and white shoes, again with yellow accents. She also has two belts. The white belt has two GravNet grenades hanging from it, with the grenades being located behind her and on her right-hand side. Her Barrier Mesh gadget hangs from the other belt, a dark olive one, on her left below her waist.

Relationships[]

Gekko

Deadlock is extremely wary of Gekko's creatures as they are radiant animals, similarly to the radivore bear in the UNMADE cinematic. She expresses concern for the safety of Gekko and the VALORANT Protocol, believing that the creatures will eventually betray Gekko and hurt the members of the Protocol.

Killjoy

After the events of the UNMADE cinematic and the loss of Deadlock's arm, Killjoy designed a cybernetic prosthetic arm that is equipped with abilities such as Deadlock's ultimate, Annihilation. Deadlock and Killjoy also hold opposing views on the safety of Gekko's creatures.

Skye

Deadlock sees Skye in a similar light to her fellow Steelhunters, commending her on her combat ability and affinity with nature. As revealed in Deadlock's voicelines, she and Skye go hiking together, and seem to share a deeper bond than most other agents.

Sova

Coincidentally, Sova was present at the Project Landfall facility following the events of the UNMADE cinematic and received Deadlock's beacon for help. It is implied that he saved Deadlock and transported her back to VALORANT HQ, where she was recruited into the Protocol.

Breach

Deadlock acknowledges Breach in a friendly manner several times in her voicelines. With her giving him the lightly teasing nickname "ponytail", it seems the two of them have forged the beginnings of a friendship.

The VERSUS // Deadlock + Gekko card shows the conflict of interest between Deadlock and Gekko, where Deadlock's traumatic and hostile experience with the radivore bear in the UNMADE cinematic is in stark contrast with Gekko's friendly relationship with his 4 radivores.
