Bind is one of the ten maps in VALORANT. A map located in arid environment of Morocco, it is one of the 4 maps released with the initial launch of VALORANT. The map was also playable in the Beta Test. Bind features two one-way teleporters that allow you to go from one site to the other. It is also Cypher's home town and the location where the DUALITY cinematic takes place.

Two sites. No middle. Gotta pick left or right. What’s it going to be then? Both offer direct paths for attackers and a pair of one-way teleporters make it easier to flank.

Map Layout & Design[]

Unlike other maps that are generally stylistically distinct by site, Bind has its stylistic distinction between defenders' side and attackers' side.

On the defense side, the map is dominated by enormous gray towers built by Kingdom that trail steady streams of black smoke into the sky. The entire area has been taken over by the signature harsh lines of Kingdom Corp's design with cranes in the process of further expanding Kingdom's reach over the city.

On the attackers' side of the map, the landscape is more natural. A natural stream flows past spawn and the surrounding structures are in soft tans and browns that blend in with the environment.

A Site[]

Bind A teleporter view
The defining feature of A Site is the reactor tower that looms above the site. This tower is one of six that can be seen around the map. As it is closer to the accessible area of the map, this tower appears much larger and gives an idea of the scale of the refinery project taking place on Bind. In a simplified version of these towers found as graffiti on the back wall of A Tower, the yellow triangle at the top resembles a single eye looking down on the people of the city.

B Site[]

Bind-B site
Similar to A site, the structure of B site is heavily dominated by Kingdom's influence. In place of a reactor tower, B sports a lower building housing a small diorama, and what appears to be a testing lab and control system for the refinery as a whole. Furthermore, many of the rooftops around the B area of the map are dominated by thin golden solar panels that may provide power to the city's buildings in place of using the power generated by Kingdom.

Bind sees the prevalence of dust and sand in its design reflecting the arid climate of Rabat with rolling sand dunes being seen behind the attacker spawn and the fountain area leading to B side. A view of Atlas mountains is visible behind the defender side spawn of the map. Most of the map's surface is dusty towards B site while the A site surface is plastered with cement. Being a Radianite Refinery, Radianite extractors, generators, and storage facilities can be seen in the Bombsites.

Lore[]

Introduction[]

Bind is located off the coast of Rabat, the capital city of Morocco on Alpha Earth and seems to be hosting a large radianite refining facility for Kingdom Corporation. It is the first map in the game that introduced the concept of teleportation equipment to the player base. The teleportation we see on Bind is one-way and limited to short distances in the same Earth and therefore it can be safe to assume it to be more compact and require less resources to operate and upkeep compared to an inter-dimensional teleporter like we see on the map Fracture. Similar to the teleporters on Fracture, however, we can again see they have a similar triangular structure, though they are smaller in size and include automatic doors.

Bind is Cypher's home town, indicated through voice lines of Viper and Cypher that the Kingdom take over of the city district and the construction of the large refining factory was not done through transparent means or consent of the locals. Viper mentions the lies Kingdom told the city to get their way and access to the radianite resources in the area and Cypher believes Kingdom told many pretty lies just to suck the city dry. The existence of a major Kingdom refinery in Morocco as well as the picture of a radianite meteor colliding with Lake Bosomtwe in Ghana in Astra's contract card can hint to north and west Africa as locations with significant radianite resources.

Cultural Cues and Environmental Elements[]

Bind defender spawn-madrasa
The first view that meets the eye of the player in Defenders' Spawn can be considered quite symbolic for what has happened in the city. Remnants of a historical building featuring Moorish style archways are shown front and center. The building is being demolished by several cranes further showcasing Kingdom's ignorance to the culture and background of the city. This fact can be also seen in how the large grey refining towers clash harshly with the landscape as opposed to the harmonious regional architecture. There are multiple anti-Kingdom posters across the map showing that Kingdom's takeover was not all so well received by the locals.

The local culture is reflected across the map. One cultural setting that catches the eye specifically is around a market place close to the residential areas. While Kingdom seems to have taken over the back areas of A site and most of B site so far, there are enough signs and buildings around the map to create a picture of activities of the residents. On A site, there is a public bath with detailed tiling and traditional skylights with a grocery store and a bicycle shop close by. We can also see a lamps and lantern shop along with a carpet workshop near the teleporter that takes us to B site.

In the Link area between the two sites lies the main market place with thread dyeing workshops and stores for textiles and pottery. We can also see two large spice shops, an animals store, and a sign for a 3-star hotel. Leaving the main market place will lead us to a hookah lounge overlooking B site. The lounge is decorated intricately with silk ornaments on the ceiling and red cushions on the seating areas. The ceiling is made of Moorish carved wood ceiling panels and floors covered with the carpets similar to what we see in the marketplace. A small stream of water can be seen starting from Attackers' Spawn towards B Fountain which could be a small branch of The Bou Regreg River in Rabat. Harbor identifies the large broken arch near Attackers' Spawn as belonging to an old kasbah. A kasbah in English means a fortress, as Morocco was tribal, every tribe had to build its own kasbah.

Kingdom Activity[]

Bind- Reactor test Chamber
Most of the Kingdom facilities are located towards the defender side of the map and span from back of A site to B side. We can see a reactor with its own loading deck on A site. Inside the reactor building there seems to be a transparent chamber holding a very large piece of crystalized radianite. In earlier version of the game this room was labeled a test chamber however the nature of tests happening here is unknown. Radianite's interwoven relationship with reality is hinted again as there are noticeable but small bright rifts that form and disappear around the crystal.

The reactor room was also one of the locations that hosted one of Astra's teaser stars before her full release. There are multiple vents on the back of Defenders' Spawn, indicating part of the facility is underground. On B site we can enter a Kingdom laboratory that is adjacent to the refining facility. In the laboratory's entrance there is a small museum showing the general refining process of radianite from mining to packaging it into the familiar crates seen throughout the maps. The process starts with detecting a radianite node and by mining it; the raw radianite undergoes a refining process to later be packaged in boxes that stand out around the different map and can be stored. We can see the natural teal hue of unrefined radianite in this display as well.
Bind Radianite Diorama
Moving on from the museum we reach a small control and analysis room for the refining process beside another loading deck. In the center of B side we can see a compact elevator that leads to an underground storage for radianite crates. This is the main location that Omega earth Phoenix in the DUALITY cinematic plants the spike on.

Bind's visual design, similar to Split, can be a testament to how Kingdom Corp. sees most things as expendable, ignoring any cultural values or the sense of place that roots the locals to their hometown in their pursuit of progress and profit, which brings about the inevitable resentment of local population. Seeing Kingdom's invasive actions in these locations can help us understand why characters like Yoru or especially Raze feel the need to stand up to Kingdom.

Agent Relations[]

Cypher - Avatar
Cypher

Cypher was a resident of Bind. He despises Kingdom's takeover of his city. Cypher believes that Kingdom is sucking the city dry of precious radianite by giving false hopes. When Cypher wins a match, he exclaims "Get out of my city!" depicting his feelings towards it.

Kasbah[]

The introduction of simulated maps created by Maxbot for the Team Deathmatch gamemode came with Kasbah, a map based based on Bind with notable differences in the architecture and layout.

The main theme of Bind, the divide between traditional architecture and the Kingdom industrialist buildings is still very present, although in Kasbah there are no ruins of older buildings in the gameplay area. The Kingdom side of the map is also a Radianite reactor, with a chunk of Radianite like the one in Bind and a transport facility to it's right.

Kasbah also features a poster that is unique to this simulation which says "Move Fast, Break Things". This is indicative of the differing philosophies of Kingdom Corporation and Kingdom Industries, with the former being more focused with progress at any cost as evidenced by the Radivore crisis and the latter being seemingly more cautious in their approach to inventions.

Connected to the reactor is a tube that is transporting a substance, potentially flowing Radianite or Radianite fumes. This may not be the first time we have seen Radianite in this state, as tubes going into the crashed ship in Breeze are also transporting flowing Radianite, but the texturing of both is different. This difference could either be because the Radianite is in different states or due to map being a simulation.
