This page describes the content of each of the individual dossiers released by Fade. For more information on why and how she did this, see Fade#Blackmailing.
Throughout Episode 4: Act 2, special dossiers on the Agents were released by Fade, as a part of her Blackmailing of the VALORANT Protocol. New ones were released each patch, coming in sets of 6, present in various locations on some of the maps. The Dossiers contain important information about the Agents, such as their real names, parts of their backstories, and character flaws. Patch 4.06 did not exist, which is why the dossiers jumped from being released in Patch 4.05 to Patch 4.07.
Lore[]
As part of the Blackmailer's plan to investigate the VALORANT PROTOCOL, she has released Agent Dossiers of the Agents, threatening to reveal the information contained within to the public if the PROTOCOL does not meet her demands, She did this because she suspected that the PROTOCOL was involved in the disappearance of someone close to her, who she only refers to as 'Him'.
The Dossiers are addressed personally to the Agents which they talk about, and are written as a virtual threat. They dig into the Agents' greatest character flaws and uncertainties, in an attempt to demoralize and disturb them.
Patch 4.04 Dossiers[]
The Patch 4.04 Dossiers were released on all maps (except Haven), and had Dossiers for Brimstone, Viper, Omen, Sage, Raze and Chamber
Brimstone[]
Name: Liam Byrne
After greeting Brimstone, the Blackmailer lists some organizations that Brimstone has been a part of: the Baltimore Fire Department, Engine 8 and Special Forces, with Brimstone seemingly leading a team called the Ragged Ravens.
The Blackmailer then goes on to question Brimstone's leadership skills, telling him that it will be his fault when nobody in the VALORANT PROTOCOL can be saved.
Viper[]
Name: Sabine Callas
The Blackmailer begins by listing Viper's various accomplishments, such as receiving the R. Francis Prize and Denton Outstanding Innovation Award, as well as becoming the first Chief Scientific Officer for Kingdom's Board of Advisors.
She then goes on to mention an incident that changed the course of her life, becoming a person who isolated herself and lost her humanity in the name of vengeance.
The Blackmailer starts asking a series of questions, which boil down to wondering who Viper will be once her goal is achieved.
Omen[]
Name: Unknown.
Omen has been taken on various names, such as John, Fred, Marcus, Yohan and Dimitri, but even the Blackmailer was not able to find his true name.
The Blackmailer lists Omen's various pseudos, before suspecting that Omen himself does not know his true name. She backs this up by their investigation on a mysterious event or location named Point Light.
The blackmailer then mentions that she thinks Omen may have been a 'monster' before the event that turned him into the creature he is now, due to his lack of a proper name. She seems to sympathize with Omen, hoping that he doesn't regret finding the answers he is searching for.
Sage[]
Name: Ling Ying Wei
The blackmailer tells of the Sage's good deeds, calling her the Balm of Shaanxi, the location of the monastery she trained at.
She proceed to name some of Sage's teachings, centering around balance, before saying how the life that Sage provides is stolen from somewhere. The blackmailer accuses Sage of ignoring the consequences of her actions, saying that her every action just sucks more life out of the source.
Raze[]
Name: Tayane Alves
The blackmailer mentions Raze's nickname, Tatà, as she is called among her friends. She then compliments Raze's art seen around Bahia, Salvador, stating that she has visited it in person.
The Blackmailer gets more serious, saying that she abandoned her plans against Kingdom and prioritized the VALORANT PROTOCOL. She says that Bahia will be taken over by Kingdom, and the liveliness of her home will be lost once she is killed.
Chamber[]
Name: Vincent Fabron
The Blackmailer says that all of Chamber's endeavours were just small steps towards a bigger goal. Saint-Étienne refers to a city in France, however it is not known what Culverin is.
The Blackmailer admits that she does not know of Chamber's motives, but suspect that it is only true moral, the only thing that he wants in life. She says that no matter what Chamber's sole objective is, his deeds will always result in the world referring to him as a villain, and she questions whether he can live with such treatment.
Patch 4.05 Dossiers[]
The Patch 4.05 Dossiers were released on all maps (except Split), and had Dossiers for Killjoy, Cypher, Sova, Breach, Skye and Neon.
Killjoy[]
Name: Klara Böhringer
The Blackmailer beings by stating Killjoy's prodigious achievements, describing the esteemed positions she held and the awards she earned. She states that two people, Zehra and Emil, would be proud of her.
However, she then begin discussing the downside of her genius: her inability to control what is done with her inventions, and her lack of responsibly for the harm they cause. She concludes, noting that she lives in a world of oblivious innocence, ignorant of the true extent of harm that her inventions have caused.
The blackmailer states that Killjoy 'handed over' her breakthroughs, and while not directly specified, it is implied that the receiver is Kingdom. While this technically means that it is Kingdom responsible for all these crimes, Killjoy's inability to ensure the proper usage of her creations is still the core of the issue. Killjoy stills holds some responsibility for all the harm done, and the blackmailer holds her accountable for it.
In this dossier, we also get a reference to the previously unknown individuals Zehra and Emil. By the tone of the text, it is assumed that these two are people who are very close to Killjoy, potentially her parents. This theory would tie into what we already know about Killjoy's parentage: while she is of German nationality, only one of her parents is ethnically German[1]. Emil (who in this case would be her father) is a German name, while Zehra (in this case, her mother) is a common name in the Middle East/North Africa region, particularly in countries like Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.
The association of Zehra being a popular name in Türkiye, and the fact that Cypher believes the Hacker herself is from Türkiye[2], has caused some people to believe that Killjoy's mom herself is the Hacker. While this is possible, it is also very unlikely, as the theory lacks any real evidence to back it up.
Cypher[]
Name: Amir El Amari
The Blackmailer's dossier on Cypher cracks into his insecurities about the nature of his work, creating discomfort and distress with great effect. She starts off casually listing some of Cypher's 'secret' safehouses, no doubt causing great unrest in the information broker's mind.
She thinks on how Cypher will react to learning that his safehouses are no longer secure, suggesting that he will go underground, and lie in secrecy.
She talks on Cypher's unwillingness to share even basic elements of his identity with those he holds close. Till date, apparently, Cypher hasn't even shown his face to the others.
She describes the toll doing this takes on Cypher, and the sacrifices he must make: because of his secretive actions, he hasn't been able to show his face to anyone. She also mentions Cypher's wife (Nora) and child.
Sova[]
Name: Sasha Novikov
The focal point of the Blackmailer's dossier to Sova is his incredible legacy of being a perfect archer - 'the Man who never missed a shot'. This legacy has been built over many, many years of hard work, effort, and outstanding performance. Even before the days of the PROTOCOL, he was famed for his impeccable accuracy.
Sova's skill comes as a double-edged sword, though - his aim is now considered to always be perfect, no matter what. He is expected to be reliable, to be dependable, to always to be able to hit the most extreme of shots. That is Sova's legacy. According to the Blackmailer, that legacy is a lie.
Apparently, sometime long in the past, Sova did miss his shot. Not much is described about this event, but the mere fact that it happened at all is enough. It shows, to Sova more than anyone, that he isn't perfect - that, just like everyone, he is capable of missing; that, just like everyone, he will miss an important shot again.
And thereby lies Sova's greatest weakness. The role of a perfect archer is something that he cannot give up now. He will always be entrusted with the hardest challenges, and when he fails, it will come with the greatest consequences. The ramifications of that single miss will be insurmountable, and the grand legacy he has built will come crashing down on him. This, according to the Blackmailer, is Sova's flaw.
Besides the chilling threat that is posed, the Hacker also drops some important information on Sova's backstory. He had a long history before the PROTOCOL, in which he earned himself the title 'Filin, Brother of Steel and String'.
The latter half is a simple reference to his archery skills, and his compound bow. However, the first part is of more interest: 'Filin' is a Russian word, translating to 'Eagle-Owl' (a large species of owl, commonly found across Eurasia). Similarly, his PROTOCOL callsign, Sova, is a romanization of the Russian сова, which also translates to 'Owl'.
We also get Sova's name. 'Sasha' is a short nickname, used as a contraction of the names 'Alexander' (masculine) or 'Alexandria' (feminine). This has sparked some debate among the community, as to whether he should be officially called 'Sasha' or 'Alexander'.
Breach[]
Name: Erik Torsten
The Blackmailer starts their dossier with Breach's family. While all that is explicitly stated is that they were 'pursued and punished', it is implied that this was because the family were all criminals.
It is implied that the entire family were proficient and famed at their work, having dedicated a large part of their life to crime. Eventually, however, the law did catch up to them: they were caught, tried, and punished.
Under normal circumstances, the all of them would suffer equally: they were, after all, equally responsible for the crimes committed, as accomplices if not the perpetrators themselves. The Judge preceding their trial, however, took pity on little Erik, who was a congenital amputee (born without arms). His punishment wasn't as stringent as for the others, indeed it seems that he got off without any punishment at all.
While the permission to live freely after being caught as a criminal would delight most, Erik wasn't happy. To him, the lenience was a mark of disgrace, a sign that he was 'unworthy' of the same treatment as given to his 'esteemed' family.
Taking this as an insult to his honor, Breach retaliated brutally. Through a string of crimes, Breach proved himself worthy of being considered in the same 'class' as his family. Eventually, despite the first ruling, they were forced to go after Breach again. With the law on his tail, just like they were on his family all those years ago, Breach was finally satisfied.
The dedication to being chased as a convict had an unintentional side effect, though - no longer could Breach enjoy the freedom that had once been so mercifully bestowed upon him. Now a criminal through and through, Breach would have to spend the rest of his days on the run, unable to have a 'normal' life. He could never again enjoy the comforts of home, his name forever stained by the misdeeds.
Other than what is plainly put forward, there are several further conclusions we can draw from this dossier. For example, the 'trip to Salvador' specified here is likely the time where Breach met Raze (seeing as she is from the city of Salvador, in Brazil). Similarly, it is possible his Big Payday Playercard (see below) showcases one of the many heists listed in here.
The Big PayDay card depicts Breach's silhouette above a broken vault, in which lies a mysterious green substance.
Skye[]
Name: Kirra Foster
The Blackmailer begins by describing Skye's achievements before she joined the PROTOCOL. Apparently, Skye had a long history of performing Anti-Kingdom acts, particularly in the NSW Region of Australia (NSW, or New South Wales, is the state in which Skye's hometown (Nimbin) is located).
The Blackmailer calls her the 'Great Reclaimer', suggesting her role as someone fighting to protect nature. This is also what her playercard of the same name refers to.
She pries at Skye, using the contrast between Skye's earlier actions and her current situation, describing how she no longer continues her vital role protecting the wilds. Her absence, the Blackmailer suggests, is disastrous.
She goes even further, comparing the VALORANT PROTOCOL to Kingdom, talking on how both are 'corporate machines' with their own agendas; on how Skye, after fighting against Kingdom for years, now bows before the PROTOCOL like a pet.
Neon[]
Name: Tala Nicole Dimaapi Valdez
This dossier is straightforward in its message to Neon, while also carrying with it a great amount of lore otherwise.
It begins with the Blackmailer explaining at great length how all the individuals surrounding Neon in her life possess the great power of control: her Father, her Mother, and even her mentors 'Ling and Zyanya' (assumed to be Sage and Reyna).
This goes in contrast with Neon herself, who historically has had difficulty with her powers, relying on the surge protector device installed on her suit to help curb her output. Her power is also prone to erratic fluctuation, and is influenced heavily by her emotions.
Neon herself states that, even with her suit designed to hold back her power, she is able to generate enough electricity to 'power a whole city block', and that using her abilities with her suit disabled could result in a massive, disastrous explosion[3].
The dossier also talks a lot about Neon's backstory. It confirms the roles of her parents, as a scientist and a cop (both of which which were speculated but unconfirmed before) to be canon.
Her father, a scientist working with Radiants, was the creator of 'Radiant Support Technologies'. The Blackmailer calls Neon the start of his path, likely referring to her suit, which is designed (assumedly by her father herself) to control her powers. According to her, this technology has uplifted the lives of millions of individuals, implying that there is a substantial amount of Radiants with similar issues of power control to Neon.
Patch 4.07 Dossiers[]
The Patch 4.07 Dossiers were released on all maps (except Split), and had Dossiers for Jett, Phoenix, Reyna, Astra, Yoru and KAY/O.
Jett[]
Name: Sunwoo Han
Jett's dossier focuses on her abilities and how she had a huge impact on the world.
The blackmailer states how Jett is always on the run, even though she is innocent. She also states that she was affiliated with a restaurant (probably having worked there) that was destroyed. It is hinted that she caused the storm that destroyed the restaurant, which is supported with her Mirrored Edge Playercard.
During the events of DUELISTS cinematic, Earth-2 Jett caused Ascent to rise by planting the spike in Venice, Italy. As the public does not know about Earth-2, the blame fell on Earth-1 Jett. Her face was on the news worldwide, she was labeled a "dangerous radiant", and those close to her were afraid and disappointed.
However, as people are unaware of Earth-2, it is difficult for Jett to prove her innocence. The dossier also shows that the blackmailer doesn't know of the existence of Earth-2 at this point, which was confirmed later during her interrogation with Cypher.
Phoenix[]
Name: Jamie Adeyemi
Phoenix's dossier focuses on one of his foremost character traits, namely, his incredibly reckless nature.
This nature has been commented on by many of Phoenix's fellow Agents, with them speaking of how his 'heroics' and his lack of patience, and how it often leads to jeopardizing of the team's performance.
Phoenix is defined by this quality of his, his ever-present and undying urge to act, even if it usually ends him up in a problematic situation (the various cinematics are a clear example of that). According to the dossier, this has been true ever since he was a child, ignoring the protective actions of his parents/guardians.
Astra[]
Name: Efia Danso
Astra's dossier starts of with a reference to her backstory. It talks of a lake, situated at a meteor impact crater over a million years old. This statement supports a long held theory about Astra's powers, believing that their origin had something to do with Lake Bosumtwi in Ghana.
This lake, like the one specified in the dossier, has formed in the hole left behind by a meteoric crater that is just over one million years old (the closest estimates date it to around 1.07 mya).
When considered superficially, the rest of the dossier doesn't really provide much, mostly just a few obscure references at the vastness of space. To try and pry more information here, we must move into speculation and analysis of symbolism. Of course, this does mean that what follows is exactly that - speculation, not canon.
As is expected, several prominent theories have emerged as to the meaning behind this dossier. Among the most fascinating was proposed by lore enthusiast Cynprel. The theory goes with Astra's own symbolism of being a 'star' herself, a giver of light and hope; looking up at the night sky, she hopes to find others like her. However, her gaze is met with only darkness, a mark that she is alone in her position
This could also tie into her role as an Astral Guardian. Given that we never hear of another Guardian, is it possible that Astra is alone in this role, solely carrying the burden of their duties? In this sense, it's natural for her to wish to seek out more 'stars' among the night sky, more Astral Guardians like her, more comrades for her to be with. And it is natural for even a passing comment about the vast emptiness of space to really bring pain.
Reyna[]
Name: Zyanya Mondragón
This Dossier, like all others, starts with a short recount of Reyna's backstory. First a small nod to how it reflects with her character, stating that her past experiences have resulted in her radical and borderline-extremist opinions.
The next point, however, is far more interesting. The Blackmailer talks of a 'sanctuary' that Reyna has built, acting as a safe haven for the people that she protects. She describes it as a refuge, accepting of those that Reyna has saved from 'Kingdom's Microscope'.
However, despite all the good she's done and all the people she's helped, she seems unable to save a person named 'Lucia'. This is likely her little sister, who we have seen referenced to multiple times (for example, in the VERSUS // Reyna + Viper Playercard)
The VERSUS // Reyna + Viper Playercard emphasizes the relationship between Viper and Reyna. In it, we see Viper leading a young girl, most likely Reyna's little sister, into a Kingdom lab room.
The first thing we can unpack from the dossier is the clear reference to this 'sanctuary' that Reyna has built. Indeed, calling it just a sanctuary is doing it injustice, for we know from one of Reyna's voicelines (audible at match starts) that it is a whole city. Not just a ragtag underground shelter, but a fully fledged city, assumedly complete with a large, self-sustaining population.
"My city needs me, I can't be away for long. Let's end this quickly."
| ||
— Reyna, at Match Start
|
The wording used in the dossier is of note here. The Blackmailer refers to the people Reyna saves as individuals 'under Kingdom's microscope', almost certainly a reference to experimentation done by Kingdom on them. As such, Reyna's city stands not only as an asylum for the people it protects, but also as a staunch symbol of resistance against Kingdom's unethical practices.
The most notable point that we get from the dossier is about Reyna's sister - Lucia, for whom we we now finally have. For a long time, it was implied that Lucia was dead, but the dossier was the first implication otherwise. This was also later confirmed by Viper's Voicemail to Brimstone about Reyna and her sister (audible in Brimstone's Office in Patch 4.10).
The message states that Lucia is the one life [Reyna] may not be strong enough to save, implying that Lucia is in a state from which she needs saving, and that Reyna has to somehow save her. Once again, this was elaborated on in Viper's aforementioned voicemail, in which she described how Reyna must directly shoulder the burden of keeping her sister alive, by gathering souls during missions and then having their 'life energy' transferred onto Lucia (for more information, see Reyna's page)
Yoru[]
Name: Ryo Kiritani
Yoru's Dossier is, compared to the others, relatively curt. As with all the others, it begins with an exploration into Yoru's past. It lists off several notable sites that Yoru has visited - Tokyo, Yokohama (a Japanese city, located to the south of Tokyo), and an unknown company named the 'Ito Conglomerate'.
She describes how Yoru's fierce nature is a mark of pride for him - his insistence on utterly shattering all his 'enemies'. However, when it comes to more personal relationships, it seems that he is unable to tone down his aggressive nature. This results in what is essentially abandonment by all those around him. The final words of the dossier pry on Yoru's doubts, contemplating the potential consequences this would have, that Yoru will have to deal with once his 'goals' have been achieved.
It is notable that the dossier does not explore any part of Yoru's 'current' lore, namely his quest to find his long-lost ancestor. Instead, it is more of a character study of his nature and feelings, describing more innate parts of his personality.
It talks about Yoru's ongoing quest to fight against his 'enemies, of his 'job' to destroy them all. Sadly, since the dossier is so disconnected from the rest of what we know of him, it is hard to draw any definitive conclusions as to who these 'enemies' are and why Yoru feels like he must fight against them. The only real hint we get is that his goal does, at some point, have an 'end', after which Yoru can proudly sit back and contemplate his success with admiration.
It does go into what is well-established in terms of Yoru's attitude and personality - his shrugging off of most relationships (even with other Agents in the PROTOCOL), his instinctive disapproval of teamwork and team-based strategies, his extreme confidence in his own abilities, his generally antagonistic attitude towards his teammates, and so on.
Even the little respect he gives out to other Agents (such as Reyna, or potentially Neon) is solely because he is thoroughly impressed by their skill, not because of an innate friendly nature.
KAY/O[]
Name: None
KAY/O's dossier is unique among all the other dossiers, in that the blackmailer knows very little about KAY/O as compared to other Agents.
The Dossier starts with the Blackmailer trying to get her head around how KAY/O exists. She considers his abilities similar to an old Kingdom project called the 'Anti-Yield Program'. It was, however, scrapped, leaving the unsolved question of 'how, then, does KAY/O exist?'
After this, the Blackmailer returns to the classical malicious and prying tone that we have become so accustomed to. She describes how KAY/O's purpose is to kill Radiants, and how it must pain him to work alongside them. This is especially so for Reyna, who we know to have been the leader of the Radiant side of the Radiant War.
In review, though, it stands that the Blackmailer fails to dig as deep into his character as she has for the rest of the Agents. Other than the small segment on Reyna at the end, the body of the dossier is simply 'You shouldn't exist' and 'You go against your programming'. Hardly a strong message, especially when compared to the strength with which she has berated all the other Agents.
This could be, potentially, because her methodology with the dossiers simply doesn't work as well for KAY/O. It's clear enough by now that they aren't meant to arbitrarily 'further their story', or to attack their character faults, but rather to pry at their own, personal fears.
In this sense, it's hard to find something that KAY/O well and truly fears - he's just come from an alternate reality, where the one friend he holds dear has died before his eyes, the world has been destroyed by the raging fires of a calamitous war, and on confronting the one who caused the destruction he came out on top. The terrifying horrors that KAY/O must have already gone through in the Radiant War don't leave too much room for fears that can be exploited, as he has already taken on and overcome most of them.
This was clarified on in the Blackmailer's Social Media Teaser Campaign, where a series of fears for all the Agents in the Istanbul Strike Team were shown. KAY/O's fear had him sitting in a dark void, holding Brimstone's lifeless corpse in his hands, his body smoking and unable to activate. It is representative of losing Brimstone again - that, despite having gone through the pains of travelling back through time, he was unable to save his best friend.
